The
Broadcast feature of OnSong taps into the built-in functionality of iOS and iPadOS to efficiently stream your screen to video conferencing apps. Unfortunately this is a limitation with this built-in function that limits screen sharing to the main screen of your device. You can combine OnSong features to stream your live video and lyrics to another app while using a second screen for chords and lyrics.
Full Screen Preview Widget
To make this work, we are going to flip the script on how you normally use OnSong. To do this, we want to first enable the
Lyrics Projection Preview Widget. You do this by opening the
External Video Menu by tapping on the TV icon in the
Menubar and then scroll to the bottom of the menu and turn the preview widget on. You can then double-tap on the preview widget as it appears on your screen to make it full screen, or tap on the widget to enter
editing mode and then tap on the maximize button that appears in the lower right corner.
Reflected Chords
One way to use the screen for both options is to lower the opacity of the lyrics projection preview widget. You can do this by tapping on the widget to reveal buttons. Tap on the button in the lower left corner to adjust the opacity. Sometimes dropping the opacity of the widget just a few notches is enough for you to see your music without it being too noticeable to your audience. This is also a neat effect that amplifies the authenticity of the event when your audience can peek behind the scenes at what you do.
Stage Monitor Mode
If you have a spare monitor or HDTV, you could also connect your device using a wired adapter, or an AppleTV to stream your chords and lyrics to an external display using
Stage Monitor Mode. If you have a newer iPad Pro with a USB-C port, you can even
purchase a small monitor that plugs directly into the USB-C port on your device for an easy setup. If not, you can connect your iPad to an external display
using one of these methods.
OnSong Connect/OnCue
OnSong Connect lets you control multiple iOS or iPadOS devices from one master device. For instance, if you are using your main iPad or iPhone to run a Zoom meeting, you can use a second, even older device to show the chords and lyrics. Learn more about
OnSong Connect and
OnCue in our user manual.
OnSong Console
OnSong Console lets you make changes to your library through a standard computer, but did you know you can also display chord charts that appear on your iPad or iPhone too? Get
OnSong Console and then tap on the "Follow" button above the preview screen. Now when you scroll, change sections, or go to the next song on your iPad, your laptop screen will follow suit. You can even tap in the dividers between the editor and preview panes to collapse the editor, if you don't need that visible.
