How do I make my song modulate/transpose keys up or down in the middle of a song?

OnSong gives you the power to transform your music, and you may have a song that you would like to transpose or modulate at a specific point.

To do this, tap on the pencil icon in the Menubar to open the Song Editor. Locate the part of the song where you want to modulate keys, type Transpose followed by a colon so that it appears as Transpose: , and then just type the number of half steps you want to transpose.  For instance, 3 would mean 3 half-steps UP, and -3 would mean 3 half-steps DOWN.

Examples might look like these-
Transpose: 5
OR
Transpose: -4

You can also use Flow to transpose keys within song without editing the song content. To do this, tap on the headphone icon to open the Playback Menu.  Locate the Flow field and type the names of all your song sections like Verse 1, Chorus, Bridge, and so on. Then, directly before the section where you'd like the transposition to take place, type in the Transpose: tag followed by the number of half-steps for the modulation, and follow it with a comma.

Modulation changes like these will still apply to your song if you change the key of the song through the Style Preferences Menu under the Chords Tab. This means that you don't have to edit or change any individual chords or keys in the Song Editor. Just use the Transpose: tag and a number, and OnSong will do the rest!

You can learn more about modulating keys within a song by watching this short Modulating Tutorial Video.

If you want to learn more about different tags that you can use in the Song Editor and what their functions are, check out the Metadata section of our User Manual.

I hope that helps you take your knowledge of OnSong up a half step or two!
