My AirTurn foot pedal isn't working. Is it a problem with OnSong?

We hear from users from time to time who have issues with their AirTurn pedal. For the most part, if the foot pedal is paired correctly and successfully, it will "just work" in OnSong and you can assign actions. Here are some things that you can try with your pedal:

Reset the pedal
Sometimes it's best to start from the beginning. We recommend resetting the pedal to the factory defaults to rule out any issues with the pairing. To do this, power on the device as normal and then press and hold the power button until the LED lights turn off. Continue pressing the power button until the lights flash repeatedly and then dim. Release the power button and turn on the device.

Choose the correct mode
Whenever you use a foot pedal with iOS or iPadOS, you need to use it in the correct mode. If you're using an older BT-105 or BT-106 powered AirTurn product, you will need to set your pedal in MODE 3. If you are using a newer AirTurn product such as the PED, PEDpro, or BT200 powered products, you will want to set your device into MODE 2. For most AirTurn products, you press and hold the MODE button until the LED blinks the number of times correlating to the desired mode, and then release. The LED will then blink back that number of times to confirm you've switched mode. Please consult the AirTurn user manual of your product for more details.

Once thing to keep in mind is that if you've switched from MODE 2 to MODE 1 or vice versa, you may run into issues.  You will need to reset the foot pedal each time you do this and want to use with iOS or iPadOS. This is because the operating system will view the pedal as two separate Bluetooth peripherals which can cause double presses to be registered.  If you are using MODE 1 for a Bluetooth LE connection, remember that you will pair this directly inside of OnSong and not through the standard Bluetooth pairing procedure covered below.

Pair the pedal
Since you've reset your pedal, you'll need to pair it again. Go into the Settings app from the home screen and choose Bluetooth. Remove any existing pairing to the pedal if necessary.  The pedal should then appear below to be paired. Tap to connect. If the pedal does not immediately appear, you may need to turn Bluetooth off and back on again.

Test the pedal
Once your pedal is connected, you'll want to make sure it's working. To do this, download the AirTurn Manager app from the App Store. This is where you can learn information about your pedal, confirm its function, and change settings.  Press the foot pedals too ensure that they are received in AirTurn's app.  If there is a problem, please contact AirTurn since it's a hardware issue.

Set actions in OnSong
As long as you are receiving signals from the foot pedal, OnSong should "just work". Go into OnSong and then tap on the actions icon in the menubar to open the Actions Editor. Swipe to the correct model or tap on the title area of the screen to choose the foot pedal model.  Tap on the three dots icon in the upper right corner to choose the pedal mode that matches the mode of the pedal. If you've selected MODE 3 or MODE 2, choose the Arrow Mode.  If you've selected MODE 1 for Bluetooth LE functionality, choose App Direct Mode to pair the device and choose which pedal is being configured.  You will then want to press the physical foot pedal to ensure that the Actions Menu appears.

Get Support
If you've gotten to this point and things are still not working, then we will certainly want to collectively scratch our heads. Go into the Utilities Menu by tapping on the gear icon in the Menubar and choose Communicate and then Get Support. Please fill out that form with your information and precisely what we can look into.
