Why are some user interface elements hard to see in low light or dark mode?

OnSong has had Low Light Mode for years to allow musicians to play on dimly lit stages. Apple has just recently released Dark Mode for iOS/iPadOS 13 that allows you to change your interface in a similar way. By default, OnSong will automatically change into and out of low light mode when devices running iOS/iPadOS 13 change dark mode. However, you can override this preference. For instance, you can have OnSong in low light mode when the rest of your device is not running in dark mode and vice versa.  This is running in a mixed mode.

The issue with running mixed mode is that OnSong sometimes accesses operating system level interfaces.  These interfaces are often times unaware of your preferences in OnSong. However, due to the way iOS/iPadOS apps can implement styling on the user interface, some elements may be changed while others are not. This can cause the interface to, for instance, appear in low light mode, while one or two buttons are hard to ready because they were not adapted to the new look.

We recommend setting OnSong's low light mode preference to automatic to resolve these issues if you have them. To do that, go into the Utilities Menu by tapping on the gear icon in the Menubar can then choose Settings.  Go into the Display Settings section and choose Low Light Mode to set it to automatic.  You can the change the dark mode preference by pulling down from the upper right corner of the screen, press and hold the screen brightness slider, and choose to enable or disable dark mode from there.
