Why can't I use the Beam or OnCue functions in the share menu?

OnCue uses frameworks provided by Apple in iOS to achieve peer to peer networking without needing to be connected to a network. Since this technology is dependent on iOS and updates to Bluetooth and WiFi technologies, it is recommended that you use the same version of iOS. Starting with iOS 7, Apple updated to a new framework for connectivity. In order to provide backwards compatibility with devices like the original iPad, OnSong supported multiple versions of the OnCue functionality for each method provided by Apple.

iOS updates happen every year which has slowly removed the need for the original framework. OnSong now uses the new versions of OnCue. If you cannot connect to older devices using OnCue, you may need to change the version to match older devices. If the Beam or OnCue functions are not available in your Share Menu, it's because you have disabled OnCue. You can change the OnCue version or disable/enable OnCue in Settings.

To do this, tap on the gear icon in the Menubar to open the Utilities Menu and then tap Settings. Choose Menu Settings on the left and then Sharing on the right. Locate the OnCue section at the bottom. The default OnCue Version option is New which uses the most current frameworks for newer devices.  You can also change this to Original for backwards compatibility with older devices.  If you select Off, OnCue is disabled and not available for selection in the Share Menu.
