How does OnSong link audio tracks to songs in my library?

OnSong has two ways that audio tracks can be linked to songs in your library – automatically and explicitly.

Automatic Linking
By default, OnSong will match tracks based on the the song title of the song in your OnSong library and then title of the song I your iTunes or OnSong Media library.  By default, this requires an exact match. If more than one match is found (say two songs with the name "Grace"), then OnSong uses the artist and album information to further refine the one that is linked.

You can change this automatic linking behavior to be more broad.  For instance, if you are adding additional information to the song title in iTunes, you can set this to "Containing Title".  You can also disable automatically linking just as easily.  To do this, open the Utilities Menu by tapping on the gear icon in the Menubar and choose Settings > Live Settings > Audio Playback > Automatically Link Tracks.

Explicit Linking
The other option is to explicitly link to the track. This is done by tapping on the Audio Button in the Live Bar to Choose Custom Track. From there you can browse songs in your iTunes or OnSong Media Library and pick the song to link.

The one caveat here is that iTunes tracks have unique identifiers that can change when you sync the content to your device. For this reason, OnSong uses the Song Title, Artist, and Album to link to the song.  So if you are using iTunes, your tracks may become unlinked if you change one of those attributed in iTunes.  We recommend using the OnSong Audio Media Library since that links to the media track and allows the title, artist, and album information to be changed without effecting the link.
